Artist's Comments

Well, let's see here.

I'd gotten into a habit of taking a moment to discuss the piece I was uploading so why don't we go ahead and do that... along with my typical verbal musings on the alleged "subculture"-type thing my art either services or is a part of...

So, this here's called the Shootout! Which should really be saved in terms of title for some cool Western-styled piece, but hey. Typical of my uploads it's somewhere in the middle of completion and, in fact, is at this moment closer to done and more finely blended than this scan. Also typical of my work total lack of backgroundage going on. But hey... yeah, there's not really a good excuse for that bit other than not wanting to pretend I could render a vaguely semi-futuristic cityscape anywhere close to my standards.

One final note for meta-commentary, this is a pretty low-res scan.

Right.

So, she's a futuristic Motoko Kusanagi-type police officer sans cyber-ness. This was for a few reasons:

1.) The premise excited me more than, "Hey, um... I think I'll draw a zaftig girl in a pin-up style thing, or just standing there... like... umn... being slightly larger than some other women."

2.) The kinetic elements of the premise let me play around with the anatomy a bit. I really think a lot of the appeal of ANY feminine (or masculine) form is centered rather heavily in the body's appearance in action. Folding, bending, straining, moving. I think really a lot of that get's lost in the little niche we (I?) work in. A lot of straight, static shots that show off the body at rest, looking like people ever-so-rarely do since we don't typically just pose all day. Kazecat does pretty good action shots, so maybe part of my choice was influenced by his most recent uploads I'd been browsing.

3.)Channeling the vaguely cyberpunk sci-fi elements let me play with wardrobe in a way I appreciated. Kuzanagi always get's those shiny little bodysuits that somehow seem more provacative than bare flesh, so I played a bit with the shine effects. I may get more into that with further endeavors.

4.) It let me just practice at drawing and rending the form after a considerable hiatus. I've been working Oil Paint landscapes and still-lifes for about a semester now, so this was actually something of a nice reprieve.

Alright, that's all I've got to say for it. I may or may not see this thing through to the end and it may or may not get scanned/reposted/updated.

Oh, and howdy to everyone I haven't seen in some time. Catch me on my new AIM.

funny, i was thinking of doing a motoko fanart type thing. but if you've seen the original movie, with the thermoptic disappearing act she pulls when she's naked? call it "Big Motoko Kusanagi: Naked" watch the pageviews skyrocket, but it be a blank picture. like a polar bear in a blizzard... yeah i suck.

anyway enough about me & my crappy idea of a joke. this is very nicely done. about time people started moving away from the typical portrait style pictures (the ones i'm guilty of doing too)! like the shading! hope you do more cyberpunk element stuff soon. this is very cool!

Nice! Really good!

But did you know Kusanagi was a dude actually? I mean before being transfered in a feminine cyborg's body! :p

Again, awesome details!

Yes, there are some people who just draw the same standing position over and over and over again, same body, different hair/features/clothes/un-clothes. I try and try not to do that myself, but inevitably there will be some copying. But yes, the most dynamic pieces are people in action, as you said bending and folding and moving and such. So to this piece, excellent work! I love the detail of the shiny suit over the ripples of the lovely plump lady. Good pose, and i'd love to see it finished if you felt so inclined.
And welcome back!
